ESAP: Expanded Syringe Access Program

Pharmacies registered in New York State's Expanded Syringe Access Program (ESAP), may now sell or furnish up to 10 syringes at a time to adults, 18 years or older, without a prescription. Under this program, health care providers (doctors and others who can prescribe syringers) may also furnish syringes.

Project Needle Smart - Prevention Outreach

Project Needle Smart is a safe sharps collection program under the auspices of ESAP (Expanded Syringe Access Demonstration Program). and monitors 10 sites that house sharps collection kiosks throughout Fulton, Montgomery, Schenectady and Albany Counties.

Project Needle Smart offers awareness on proper access and disposal of needles and syringes. With Project Needle Smart you can prevent injury, illness and pollution.

• GOT needles,
• GET a free sharps container and
• FIND the Drop Box at the site nearest you.

What To Do With Syringes

• Do not re-cap, remove or bend needles
• Drop used syringe, with needle pointing down, into container
• Do not overfill container (3/4 full)
• Keep container out of reach of children
• Close and seal container
• Locate the nearest project Needle Smart site
• Drop your full container into the Drop Box and get a new free sharps container

Adirondack Empowerment in Action Advocacy Group

Goal of the AEA I Advocacy Group is to provide a safe and positive environment that will empower and inform individuals infected and affected by HIV/AIDS throughout Fulton/Montgomery counties through advocacy and mobilization.

On-Going Community Mobilization

Through the AEA advocacy efforts, RRP works with Persons Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWH/A) to eliminate barriers and increase access to regional HIV related activities such as; Clinical Education, HIV Treatment Presentations, Awareness Forums, Consumer Advisory Boards, Legislative Office Visits, Hepatitis C Conference, and Latino Commission on AIDS Reunion Latina Conference.

RRP Young Male Survey Initiative

The goal of the Male Survey is to enhance access to HIV/STD testing among the young adult male population. If you are a young adult male between the ages of 16 - 29, living in Fulton or Montgomery Counties, we want to know what you think, please take a moment to fill out our survey below.

Based on the response of this quantitative information, the RRP will establish a formal evaluation, and proceed with conducting a HIV testing resource tools for our target population. The survey will be and has been administered in various locations, such as FMCC, Workforce Solutions, Planned Parenthood, YMCA, prison settings, etc.

AIDSWALK

AIDSWALK provides a unique opportunity for AIDS service providers to join together in raising funds and community awareness about the AIDS epidemic. The RRP, along with AEA make a concerted effort to raise money. AIDSWALK is a prerequisite of The Community AIDS Partnership of the Capital Region (CAP-CR); convened by the Community Foundation for the Capital Region in 1994 and is now administered by CARES, Inc.

World AIDS Day Poster Contest

The goal of the World AIDS Day Poster Contest is to engage students from the bi-county area in creating works of art that depict the annual World AIDS Day theme. The intent is to raise HIV/AIDS awareness through art among the adolescent population. Entries are showcased at the annual World AIDS Day Breakfast as well as recognized by the community and local politicians.
